Rants about rights.

My wife has been keeping me pretty informed about the Terri Schiavo case so today I decided to read up on it on my own. Now you could take the title of this rant in one of two ways, and it is probably both: one) a rant about human rights, whether they are rights to free speech or the right to live or die. Two) a rant about the right wing conservatives that are running our government. Now I am not going to get into the specifics of the case because most of you probably know what they are already. All I am going to do is comment on my views and encourage everyone to respond, debate question and develop your own ideas and views.
On the rights issue: When I got married, I granted my wife the right to make choices for me in case I was unable to make them for myself. I am no longer my parents or anyone else's responsiblity (although they still might worry and do indeed care about my decisions greatly), that right has passed on to Sam (the wife). Now if my parents disagree with a decision Sam has made in my regard, they take it up with her, they don't involve the courts in a decision that is none of their business. Mrs Schaivo's parents gave their daughter to her husband to love and care for and they must deal with all the benefits and consequences of that action. It may be harsh, but it is the truth.
On our right-wing leaders: George Bush snatches up every opportunity he has to cram his beliefs down someone else's throat and this incident is no exception. If your views or beliefs are different than his, well then you are probably just going to have to sit and spin because Bush is building an army of yeah-sayers that will push and fight for his views regardless of whether they are constitutional or not. It is not his place or any other governmental agencies place to say whether Mrs. Schaivo should live or die, it is a familiy decision and George and his tally-ho cowboys should butt out and stop trying to turn everyone in America into a ten-gallon hat wearing Conservative.
Now that I am done ranting, please feel free to comment and argue with me and by no means make the assumption that my views reflect those of everyone affiliated with this website. These views are mine and mine alone.
